Lovers of the Rockies owe it to themselves to visit Asia's great Himalaya mountains, home to the world's tallest and most breathtaking peaks.
Rocky Mountain Community Radio invites you to trek along the Markha River through one of the world’s highest inhabited plateaus, where we revel in spectacular views of the Great Himalayan, Ladakh, and Zanskar ranges. We start in the Ladakhi "capital" of Leh where we spend a few days acclimatizing and visiting the many Buddhist monasteries in the Indus Valley . Our route meanders through willow groves, around groves of wild roses, and pastel canyons festooned with multi-hued prayer flags undulating in the breeze. We encounter few vestiges of modern life – our companions on the trail are nomadic families and an occasional monk.
A portion of the proceeds from this trip supports the local news, information and music brought to you by your community radio stations including: KBUT/Crested Butte, KDUR/Durango, KGNU/Boulder, KOTO/Telluride, KRCC/Colorado Springs, KRCL/Salt Lake City, KRZA/Alamosa, KSJD/Mancos, KSUT/Ignacio and KUNC/Greeley. Rocky Mountain Community Radio thanks you for your support.
