- Overland Adventure
From the thrilling first glimpse of the summit of Everest aboard a Boeing 757 on the flight between Kathmandu and Lhasa, this adventure unfolds on a colossal scale. Upon arrival, we begin our overland journey at the Yambulagang tombs and at Samye Gompa in the great valley of the Yarlung Tsangpo. We travel north to Lhasa to visit the Barkhor and the enduring spirit of the Jokhang Temple before scaling the Potala Palace, for centuries the world's tallest building. From here, we make the 500-mile journey across the high plateau, passing villages and farms and eventually descending 8,800 feet through a spectacular gorge into the Kathmandu Valley. Along the way we veer south, spending several days exploring the base camp of Everest's towering north face. The vantage points from Rongbuk Monastery, Everest Base Camp and the Pang La provide expansive views of the Himalaya.
